Yanyao Qi, or yaoyao
A late bloomer.
yaoyao graduated from University of Southern California, with a major in Theatre (School of Dramatic Arts) and minor in Cinematic Arts (School of Cinematic Arts). She has a great heart for creative works. yaoyao concentrates her study in play directing and acting, she is also a voice over actor. In her sophomore year, yaoyao finally finds the major she loves, and transferred to USC School of Dramatic Arts. There, she began her pursuit of arts. The path to her dream is not easy, yet yaoyao is gratified. She has slowly found herself and is becoming a better version of herself through creating. Fortunately, yaoyao has met many good friends and mentors on her way to her dream. Their earnest attitude towards their dreams also motivates yaoyao to persist doing what she loves. Looking forward to her future.

垚垚是一名南加州大学的毕业生，主修戏剧艺术，辅修电影艺术。垚垚热爱创作。她专注于研究舞台导演和表演，同时也是一名配音演员。在大学二年级，垚垚终于发现了自己热爱的专业，并转学到南加州大学的戏剧学院开始了对于艺术的追求。追求的道路虽然坎坷，但是垚垚开心。她在创作的过程中渐渐找到了自己，并且成为了更好的自己。幸运的垚垚在寻找梦想的路上遇到了很多好朋友，好导师。他们对于梦想认真负责的态度也激励着垚垚坚持去做喜欢的事情，未来可期。

在校期间，垚垚有幸结识了一群同样喜欢戏剧的伙伴，并加入了五号门：USC的第一个也是唯一的中文剧社。在这样一个舒适的创作环境中，垚垚导演了她人生中的第一部舞台剧《白兰》（由张鹤导演改编，带着中国背景色彩的《欲望号街车》）。在辛苦的排练与二次创作中，《白兰》最终在 USC 的 Bovard Auditorium 与观众见面。这也是五号门有史以来的第二个大型制作。
在五号门社团朋友们的鼓励下，垚垚导演了她的第二部舞台剧《我和我和他和他》（赖声川）。这部剧是在一个表演用的咖啡厅演出的。垚垚和张安导演充分利用了场地的利与弊，巧妙地展现了一部充满趣味的戏。
临近毕业，垚垚与同在洛杉矶并且都以做戏为专业的同伴们一起创办了 Assembly Call （集结号）。Assembly Call 开启了垚垚参与的第一部原创实验舞台剧。《聊斋: Tales of Extraordinary》 最终赢得了在 Company Creation Festival 演出的机会。接着，Assembly Call 凭着聊斋故事的原创系列赢得了在好莱坞戏剧节演出的机会。2018年七月，《聊斋: House of Tales》终于映入好莱坞戏剧节观众们的眼帘。
Her works.
In school, yaoyao had the privilege of meeting a group of good theatre friends, and joined Gate Five Chinese Theatre – the very first Chinese speaking theatre at USC. In such pleasant creative environment, yaoyao directed her first play, White Orchid, an adapted version of A Streetcar Named Desire in Chinese. The work has been presented in Bovard Auditorium at USC. This was also Gate Five’s second production.
Under the encouragement of friends in Gate Five Chinese Theatre, yaoyao directed her second play I(HIM+HER) by Stan Lai. The play was performed in a performance cafe. Director yaoyao and Zhang An made full use of the cafe, skillfully presented a play full of interest.
Upon graduation, yaoyao and her friends in Los Angeles, those who specialize in theatre, founded Assembly Call. Assembly Call opened up yaoyao’s first original experimental play. Liaozhai: Tales of Extraordinary eventually won the opportunity to perform at the Company Creation Festival. Then, Assembly Call won a chance to perform at the Hollywood Fringe Festival with its original series of Liaozhai stories. In July 2018, Liaozhai: House of Tales finally caught the audience’s eyes at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.
